Didcot Railway Centre

didcot_centre_01

One of the best collections of Great Western Railway steam engines, coaches, wagons, and other rolling stock in the country, and just down the road from Didcot’s Civic Hall where we host our regular Didcot & Oxfordshire Toy Fair. There are buildings and small relics to see, including a recreation of Brunel’s broad gauge railway, all based around an original 1930s engine shed. The Railway Centre is open daily between Easter and the middle of September – check the website for further details.

Pendon Museum

Just a few miles away from Didcot is the Pendon Model Railway Museum. This is one of Oxfordshire’s best-kept secrets, but is so worth a visit. Several vast layouts recreate in perfect miniature the idyllic scenes of railway travel in the 1920s and 30s. There are also some other fabulous models, as well as a collection of railwayana. Check the website for opening times, which are generally weekends and Bank Holidays only.

Cirencester Antiques & Collectors’ Market

cirencester_market_01

Staged every Friday from early in the morning (about 8:00 am) through to 3:00 pm, this is one of the best regional antiques and collectors’ markets in the country, and regularly hosts at least one major dealer in toys and games. The Market is held in the famous Corn Hall, just off the Market Place in the heart of Cirencester.
