The launch of a new Collectors’ Fair at Marlborough College in Wiltshire has been a major development for Retro Ronnie in 2016, representing not only a fresh and exciting venue but also a side-step in direction.
Unlike our regular events in Cirencester and Didcot, this new fair is not solely dedicated to toys, but will be a broad-spectrum Vintage, Retro and Collectables Fair. Stallholders include dealers in coins and banknotes, stamps, militaria, postcards, coins, vinyl records, ephemera, period clothing, “mantiques”, books and, of course, our stock-in-trade Toys and Trains. There are also a select number of dealers in more traditional antiques, with an emphasis on 20th century collectables.
The venue couldn’t be more appropriate, with us taking over the Norwood Hall in one of Britain’s most historic and well-respected public schools; Marlborough College. Founded in 1843 on the site of The Castle Hotel, a former coaching inn on the Bath Road, the College is today ranked as one of the top five public schools in the country. Included amongst its alumni are such famous names as the poet John Betjeman, actor James Mason, engineer Sir Nigel Gresley, the Duchess of Cambridge, singer Chris de Burgh, comedian Jack Whitehall and, by strange coincidence, our own Webmaster.
Catering at the College is provided by the resident staff and is to a very high standard, and includes an offering of snacks and lunches as well as through-the-day teas and coffees. Opening times are slightly different from our regular fairs, with Early-birds and trade from 9:00 am (premium entry fee) and main doors open from 10:00 am. Regular entry charge will be £2.50 per head (free for children under 16) with £5 per head for Early Birds. See here for Map & Directions.
